On August 25, 2026, the Town & Country Gardeners of Washington installed new officers and recognized members for their dedicated service over the past year. Officers for 2026-27 are Sue Freeberg, President; Darlene Henderson, Vice President; Angie Segler, Secretary; Barb Wynn, Corresponding Secretary; Trudy Yazujian, Treasurer; and Jamie Powers, Assistant Treasurer. After the installation, committee chairs met with members to plan the year ahead.
The club’s 2026 programs will honor the country’s 250th anniversary with presentations on Revolutionary War Herbs at 7 p.m. September 22, Seeds of a Nation at 7 p.m. October 27, and Tea Gardens at 1 p.m. November 17. In 2027, the club will host Make and Take: Decoupage Flowerpots at 1 p.m. March 23 and a program on Coffee Plants at 7 p.m. April 27. Programs are open to new members and guests and will be held at Connect Center, 1750 Washington Rd., Washington, IL.Drive through the fence on the west side and enter from the back. Meeting announcements will appear on the Town & Country Gardeners of Washington, IL, Facebook page, in The Courier Newspapers, and on flyers distributed throughout the community.
The club plants and maintains flowers on Washington Square and around the fountain, in the pollinator garden near Brecklin’s, and at Five Points. Later in the year, members decorate pots in those areas for winter. A new project includes planting and maintaining flowers at the Veterans Memorial in Glendale Cemetery.
