Shirley E. Thompson Bohle, 86, of Greenville, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 2, at Northside Christian Church, Vandalia with Pastor Randy Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in Nichols/Nickels Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9-11 a.m., Monday, at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Northside Christian Church or the Mulberry Grove First Church of Christ. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.

Shirley Elaine was born on a hot and humid evening on July 17, 1939, at the home of her parents, John Arlow Campbell and Lillie Ann (Nickels) Campbell in the community of “Chicken Foot” south of Brownstown, Ill..

Shirley’s educational journey began at Arm Prairie School, where she studied until its closure, after which she attended Brownstown Junior and Senior High School. She graduated with the Class of 1957. On May 18, 1958, she married Floyd Stanley Thompson at the First Christian Church in Vandalia. The couple had two sons, David Arlow Thompson and Daniel Allen Thompson. They shared nearly 40 years of marriage before Floyd’s passing on Aug. 25, 1997. Shirley later married Walter E. Bohle on Sept 4, 2002, who survived her.

Before graduating high school, Shirley started her career at the First National Bank in Vandalia. She worked there for over 32 years. Besides her banking career, she served as a substitute cook at Brownstown schools, was president of the parent-teacher association, and volunteered for various events. Shirley was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, enjoyed fishing, gardening, and canning her harvest.

She was a devout and faithful Christian, dedicating much of her time playing piano for numerous churches throughout the years. Among them were Arm Prairie Church, Northside Christian Church, Woburn Church of Christ, and the First Christian Church of Mulberry Grove. She was also a founding member of Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, reflecting her deep faith and community involvement.

Mrs. Bohle is survived by her husband, Walter Bohle of Greenville; son Daniel Thompson and wife Tina of New Bloomfield, MO; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Thompson of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, John David Thompson of Hampton, VA, Dominic Joseph Thompson of Hampton, VA, Danielle Kristine Thompson of Holts Summit, MO, Joseph Stanley Thompson of Holts Summit, MO, and Mikel James Arlow Thompson of New Bloomfield, MO; great-grandchildren, Trinity, Caden, Colson, Chandler, Floyd, and Emerson; 2 step-daughters; 4 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Campbell; husband, Floyd Thompson; son, David Thompson; and brother, John Ray Campbell.
