NAPERBROOK GOLF COURSE TEE BOXES TO BE RENOVATED
Three tee boxes at Naperbrook Golf Course will undergo renovations this fall, but all 18 holes will remain in use while the work is done, Naperville Park District officials said.
The district said higher usage of the 22204 W. 111th St. course has caused additional wear and tear to the par-3 and forward tees. As a result, tee boxes on holes 1, 4 and 15 will be rebuilt this fall and available for use in the spring.
Surfaces are to be expanded and improved to accommodate additional play. Temporary tees will be used during construction, officials said.
DUPAGE REPORTS HUMAN CASE OF WEST NILE VIRUS
DuPage County Health Department reported its first human case of West Nile virus this year.
The virus is spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. Most infected people do not feel sick, but about 20% may develop symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches, joint pain or other potentially serious complications, a news release said.
There are no vaccines to prevent or medication to treat the virus, the release said.
Health officials urge residents to remove standing water, report areas where water has been sitting for more than a week, ensure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens and use insect repellent for protection.
The health department’s index reports a high number of infected mosquitoes in most areas. No information was provided about the infected adult resident.
PRESCRIBED BURNS TO TAKE PLACE ACROSS PARK DISTRICT
Naperville Park District maintenance crews and third-party contractors will conduct prescribed burns in more than two dozen parks and park district properties around Naperville this fall.
The practice of intentionally igniting fires to improve the overall health of the ecosystem is widely used to help clear the ground of invasive weeds and reduce the amount of leaf and plant debris, a news release said.
Burns are done in the right weather conditions and are supervised by trained professionals. Suitable weather conditions include low wind velocity, specific wind direction and low chance of precipitation, the release said.
In the north, prescribed burns are planned for Country Lakes and Seager parks.
Central region burns will be done at Brighton Ridge Park, Buttonwood Park, Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, Meadow Glens, Oakridge Parkway, Rock Ridge Park, Sportsman’s Park, Stanford Meadows, University Heights Park, Veterans Park and the Dorothea Weigand Riverfront Park.
In the south, burns are planned for Ashwood Park, Commissioners Park, DuPage River Park, DuPage River Sports Complex, Knoch Knolls Park, Knoch Knolls Nature Center, Frontier Sports Complex, Springbrook Parkway, Tall Grass Lakes, Rivercrest Estates Park, Frank Rus Preserve and the Wolf’s Crossing Community Park.
Other burns will take place at the Springbrook Golf Course, Pioneer Park and the Clow Creek Greenway.
