Naperville, IL – A fire at MOD Pizza in downtown Naperville prompted an evacuation on Monday night, but officials confirmed there was little damage to the restaurant.
According to the Naperville Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 103 S. Washington St. at 8:24 p.m. after reports of smoke inside the building. Responders arrived to find a fire contained within the enclosure of a pizza oven. The alarm was upgraded to include additional fire apparatus and personnel, totaling 24 firefighters on the scene.
An offensive attack quickly extinguished the fire, and crews checked the roof to ensure no extension beyond the oven area. Officials reported that the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, with damage limited to the oven and nearby contents. No injuries were reported among civilians or fire personnel. Damage was estimated at $11,000.
The scene was turned back over to the business manager following the investigation, with assistance from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering, and Development Department, as well as the DuPage County Health Department.
