DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Westmont Chief of Police Brian Gruen announced Tuesday, December 30, 2025 that Judge Anthony Coco has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Joliet male suspect accused of posting a video threatening a Westmont Porsche warehouse. Devan Sheard, age 32, of the 2800 block of Grand Prairie Drive, appeared at First Appearance Court Tuesday morning charged with one count of Disorderly Conduct – False Bomb Threat (Class 3 Felony).

On Sunday, December 28, 2025, at approximately 1:33 p.m., Westmont police responded to the Napleton Porsche warehouse, located in the block of 700 Burr Oak Drive, after receiving a phone call alerting them to a YouTube video with threatening content. In the video, allegedly created by Devan Sheard, he is seen discussing planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) inside vehicles. Devan Sheard, a former employee at the business, was allegedly captured on video approaching multiple cars with their hoods up while stating, “should I hide the IED over here?” At one point in the video, Sheard sets the camera down and states, “I’m planting the IED as we speak” and then later in the video he states, “I did plant the IED in one of these vehicles” and “If I’m going to go out, I’m going to go out with a bang!”

The Westmont and DuPage County Sheriff’s Bomb Squads searched the warehouse as well as Sheard’s residence, and found no bomb-making materials.

“The alleged conduct of Mr. Sheard left employees at the facility, as well as the Westmont community anxious and in fear for their personal safety. Additionally, the law enforcement resources devoted to this investigation were unnecessary and a waste of taxpayers’ money. The charges filed against Mr. Sheard sends the message that in DuPage County we will not tolerate abuses to the criminal justice system as alleged in this case. I commend the Westmont Police Department Bomb Squad and the Westmont Fire Department for their efforts on this case as well as DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick’s office and the Joliet Police Department for their assistance. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Sandi Tanoue and Michael Pingaj for their work securing charges against Mr. Sheard.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin

“I am extremely proud of our patrol officers and investigators who worked quickly and diligently to gather evidence, identify the offender and bring this case to a swift resolution. I would like to thank the Westmont Fire Department, Westmont EMA and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for all their assistance. I also thank State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for their legal guidance on this case.”

— Westmont Chief of Police Brian Gruen

Sheard’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 26, 2026, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
