James Edward Reed II
Written by Kathryn Sears

James Edward Reed II, better known as “Bubba” to everyone that knew him (strangers included.), 48, of Chandlerville, was involved in a tragic accident and passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. He was born on January 11, 1977 in Springfield to James Edward and Dorothy Ann (Lascelles) Reed, both of which survive him. Bubba married the love of his life, Beth Ann Stone, on September 1 st , 2006. Together they raised three sons- James “Jewel” (Kenzie) Reed III, Jon (Madi Sutton) Reed, and Brady (Emily) Reed. Bubba was incredibly proud of his boys, telling anyone that would listen all about them. However, his heart belonged to his grandsons Cohan Reed and Winston Reed who lit up his world. He also leaves behind his siblings- Bruce Chadwick, Sheri (Steve) Collins, and Jamie (Frank) Long and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jewel and Lucille Reed and Llyod and Mary Lascelles. Bubba was a proud graduate of AC Central High School in 1995. He found his calling behind the wheel and became a dedicated truck driver – clocking countless miles and collecting wild stories. He had a soft spot for nature, especially hummingbirds, gardening, and taking more sunrise, sunset, and moon pictures than his phone could handle at times. He was an old soul, timeless in his wisdom and warmth, with a deep love for music from every era. Music was his constant companion and he loved sharing his favorites with the people around him. Stubborn and proud of it, but with the biggest heart. Always there for a laugh, a helping hand, and that grin we’ll never forget. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with a visitation before the service from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tom Carlock will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Pontiac Cemetery, outside of Chandlerville. Memorial donations may be made in James’s name to his family. Online condolences can be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com. Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville is in charge of arrangements.
