Downers Grove tied for 128th among Illinois cities for scam reports in July

Downers Grove had one scam report in July 2026, making it one of 155 cities tied for 128th among 282 Illinois cities with at least one BBB Scam Tracker report, according to Better Business Bureau.

That was a decline from three reports in the previous month.

The report listed a $23.07 loss from an online purchase scam, saying the buyer paid for an item that was never shipped. The business responded once to say a refund was not possible, and there was no further contact after two months.

BBB Scam Tracker lets consumers search reported scams and share their experiences to help others recognize similar schemes. The BBB says it reviews each report before publication and does not publicly display the reporter’s name or personal contact information.

Fraud reports have continued to show large financial losses nationwide. The Federal Trade Commission said consumers reported losing more than $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024, a 25% increase from the previous year.
