BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois State continued its winning streak on Wednesday, as the Redbirds (5-2) won their fifth-straight match thanks to a 4-3 win over Butler (3-8) at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.

The Redbirds picked up the early doubles points, with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Nuria Sanz and Nicole Iosio cruised to a 6-0 win over Butler’s Sienna Miles at Jordan Schildcrout for the first win of the match at the No. 2 spot, and then Emma Lindh and Vittoria Benedetti picked up a 6-3 victory over Lauren Cook and Sophie Parr at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.

Butler made things interesting in singles, as the Bulldogs picked up three-set wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. However, the Redbirds took wins on courts three through five to clinch the win. At the No. 2 spot, Benedetti earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Parr and Iosio also picked up a win at the No. 4 spot, defeating Cook in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The clincher for the Redbirds was at the No. 5 spot, where Sanz came from behind to defeat Cook in three sets 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 to give the Birds their fifth-straight win.

The Redbirds are back in action on Friday, February 20, when they travel to Springfield, Illinois, to take on UIS at 10 a.m.
