Judge denies pre-trial release for man accused of torturing, kidnapping girlfriend - AOL.com

HANOVER PARK, Ill. (WGN) – A judge has denied pre-trial release for a Hanover Park man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting, beating and kidnapping his girlfriend.

The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said just after 11:45 a.m. Sunday, June 14, Hanover Park police officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who said her boyfriend, identified as 32-year-old Jose Rojas-Alcocer, physically and sexually abused her and threatened to kill her.

When officers arrived, they found the woman covered in lacerations and bruises outside a home she shared with Rojas-Alcocer, according to investigators.

Based on the investigation, authorities believe the woman and Rojas-Alcocer lived together and that he eventually grew suspicious of her seeing other men, prompting him to take away her cell phone and not allowing her to leave the home, going so far as to keep her in the bedroom and only allowing her to leave to go to the bathroom.

Authorities said it’s believe Rojas-Alcocer put cameras in the bedroom so he could monitor the woman.

Between May 10, 2026 and June 14, 2026, Rojas-Alcocer allegedly refused to let the woman leave the house and physically and sexually abused her multiple times. Detectives said some of the physical abuse included cutting the woman with a large kitchen knife, telling her he wanted to watch her bleed, and hitting her with a wrench, choking her and burning her with cigarettes.

The investigation also found that Rojas-Alcocer allegedly made the woman drown a cat in the bathtub and if she did not, he would kill her, according to authorities.

Investigators said the victim was able to call authorities when Rojas-Alcocer left the home to go to work. Authorities were ultimately led to a Motel 6 in East Syracuse, New York, where they took Rojas-Alcocer into custody on Wednesday, June 17.

Rojas-Alcocer appeared in court on the morning of Saturday, June 27 and has been charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of aggravated kidnapping, one count of aggravated domestic battery and one count of aggravated battery.

His next court date has been set for Monday, July 20.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin issued the following statement on the case:

“The psychological, emotional and physical pain Jose Rojas-Alcocer allegedly inflicted upon his girlfriend is inconceivable. It is alleged that for more than a month, Rojas-Alcocer systematically and repeatedly sexually assaulted the survivor in this case and held her captive in a bedroom, which he had under twenty-four-hour surveillance. This psychological abuse, coupled with the torturous, repeated physical assaults allegedly administered by the defendant are among the worst I’ve seen in my thirty-eight years as a prosecutor. I commend the Hanover Park Police Department for their exceptional work on this case which ultimately led to the apprehension of the defendant in New York. I thank the United States Marshalls Service for their assistance in taking Mr. Rojas-Alcocer into custody. Most importantly, I thank the survivor for her courage in contacting authorities which allowed us to file these extremely serious charges against Mr. Rojas-Alcocer. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer Lindt and Alysa Feld for their outstanding efforts in securing charges against the defendant in this very disturbing case.”
