The Benedictine Eagles men’s basketball team finished the homestand 2-0, with a win over Dominican 78-70 and Senior Day victory over Edgewood 77-64. The Eagles also clinched a NACC playoff berth after Saturday’s win.
“Last year we didn’t have the luxury of making the conference tournament so making it for my first time feels great,” sophomore Connor Glasgow said.
Benedictine started fast against Dominican, building a 19-point halftime lead. Dominican clawed back into the game in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 43-32. However, Benedictine withstood the late surge and secured the victory behind a team-high 21 points from junior Nathan LaPlant.
“We all have become more comfortable playing together and are getting hot at the right time,” said Glasgow. “Along with that, we did a great job at sharing the ball and finding the hot hand [in] Nathan LaPlant, who had a great shooting game.”
The Eagles followed with another strong performance against Edgewood. Though the Eagles were down by one at halftime, Noah Mason took over in the second half and ended the game with 29 points. The Eagles pulled away for the win on a day that meant even more to the seniors in their final home game at the Rice Center.
“It was great to get a win on senior day for our seniors who have done so much for the program, and I am looking forward to seeing how we can finish the season off,” said Glasgow.
The Eagles will finish off the regular season with two conference games on the road this week. They will face Aurora at 7PM on Wednesday and Wisconsin-Lutheran at 3:15PM on Saturday.
